Diagnosing the Mathematical Skills of First Grade Students – Methodological Guidelines

This article presents the results of a two-year pedagogical experiment aimed at studying the achieved mathematical competence of first-grade students. The main goal of the study is to analyze the results of mathematics education at the beginning and the middle of first grade. The analysis focuses on the results of the diagnostic study conducted on the basis of a developed testing toolkit. The applied diagnostic resource and the results of the measured achievements of students provide a clear idea of the level of mathematical competence at this stage of education. The levels of achieved mathematical literacy among first-grade students are presented.
